Link to Climate Change Simulation

Cimate Change Simulation

Instructions:  Run the simulation for the three scenarios.  Summarize your findings.

Read the article discussing the projections by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.  Consider the environmental impacts for the scenarios provided.  Also consider social factors.   Address the following questions.
Climate Change Article

1.  Is it possible to stop global warming.  Why or why not?

2.  According to the article, what environmental impacts will likely occur due to the projected increases in global temperature.

3.  What factors need to be taken into consideration when looking at a plan to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change? Play the game at Climate Challenge and discuss how these factors interact.

4.  Why might countries that are still developing have a more difficult time reducing emissions than developed countries?

5.  What were the limitations of the models used in this report?

  1. It is not possible to stop global warming because there will always be a production of CO2. However, we can reduce CO2 emissions to slow global warming. Due to increases in global temperature these things will likely happen: ocean acidification, heat waves and heavy precipitation, sea level rising, intense future cyclones and hurricanes, change in weather patterns, and surface warming. In order to reduce carbon emissions effectively you must take into consideration: approval rating, energy usage, cost, and provision of natural resources such as food, water, and shelter. Developing countries would have a more difficult time reducing carbon emissions because they do not have money or resources needed to supply their citizens. Some limitations of the other models used were that they didn't take into consideration the factors that would make the plan not possible. Lacy, Landon, Adrianna

    1. Explain/elaborate on what you mean by approval rating. Also, elaborate on the last statement about the factors that would make the plan not possible. To what factors do you refer? Explain. Also, what were other limitations of the models we examined including your own as well as the data tables and graphs you examined.

  2. 1. It can be reduced, but most likely not completely because people are not willing to make such drastic measures.
    2. Sea level will rise, temperature will increase, acidification of ocean will increase, hurricanes will intensify, wind, precipitation, and temperature patterns will change.
    3. factory emissions, burning fossil fuels, deforestation, afforestation and carbon is emitted into atmosphere and cycles through the environment
    4. Can't afford to reduce carbon and feed citizens.

    1. Look again at the meaning of the word afforestation.
You did not answer question number 5. Could you answer it and post it as a reply here?

    1. People probably wouldn't be willing to cut back their technology and electricity use or want to spend money to change their energy source.
    3. Increase the planting of trees
    5. The model did not include money/costs, food, water, energy/electricity, and public opinion that leaders take into consideration when trying to reduce carbon emissions.
